The chocolate market reached 805,000 tons in 2023, up 6% on the previous year. Despite the significant increase, annual per capita consumption in the country is still only 3.9 kg, far below that of European countries such as Estonia (8.5 kg), Germany (8.4 kg) and Austria (8 kg). In some incipient segments, such as low-calorie or sugar-free chocolates, the outlook is even better, with expansion estimated at 9% per year until 2032 worldwide.

The outlook is that demand for chocolates will continue to grow worldwide. According to research by Mordor Intelligence, global sales will increase by 3.53% per year from 2024 to 2029, rising from US$ 115.92 billion to US$ 137.88 billion. In Brazil, there is room to double per capita consumption compared to the leading countries.
Single origin
One of the drivers of growth in the chocolate market globally is the increased demand for higher quality products, made from cocoa with single origin certification and sustainability. The trend is particularly strong in Europe and North America. But it is also noticeable in Brazil.
Healthy taste
As consumers become more aware of the negative effects of ultra-industrialized products, they are increasingly looking for healthier options, with less sugar and other nutritional properties. Vegan, organic, sugar-free and gluten-free chocolates are on the rise.
