Functional foods

The consumption of functional foods to improve health and well-being is one of the main trends in the food industry. According to consultancy Precedente Research, rising demand will cause the market to grow by 7% a year and reach around US$ 600 million by 2032 worldwide. In Brazil, the tea segment, for example, is growing by 43% a year and already has a turnover of R$ 1.5 billion, according to Euromonitor.

HIGHLIGHTS

More connected and informed, people are increasingly looking to eat nutrients that help them live longer and better. Beyond taste, health benefits and a sense of well-being are important.

Global demand

The trend towards healthier foods that generate well-being is a reaction to the bad habits encouraged by the fast-paced routine of contemporary life. The movement has intensified in the post-pandemic, is global and is here to stay.

Incipient market

In Brazil, the consumption of some very traditional functional products, such as teas, is still in its infancy compared to the world average. But demand is growing fast, in the wake of the search for healthier drinks, without sugar or preservatives.

Innovation on the rise

Cutting-edge technologies have enabled the emergence of new product categories and innovative products that combine flavor, quality and functional components such as creatine, collagen and vitamins, among other nutrients.
